What you'll doAs the Design Engineer for Royal Truck Body (A Shyft Group Brand) based at our manufacturing facility in Carson, CA, you will enjoy being at the forefront of translating customer needs into practical design engineering solutions.In this role, you will be accountable for developing new design concepts (including an integrated tailgate camera) and evaluating them against competitors, building a prototype, and testing functionality and durability.You will also be involved with creating product drawings, comprehensive drawing packages, and driving agreements to implementation. Additionally, you will support production for the first builds and assist the planning team with the transition to production (old vs new).You will also: * Provide accurate, timely, and cost-effective engineering solutions for our customers * Translate customer requirements into engineering specifications through calculations and layouts * Spearhead the engineering change management process and create engineering change requests (ECRs) Manage the ECR approval process and issue change notices with effective dates and material disposition * Oversee product attributes in the areas of quality, manufacturability, assemble ability, and Product cost * Create solid models and drawings to achieve defined product attributes * Manage Engineering Bill of Materials * Define and execute validation plans to assure product quality * Improve the financial performance of projects through product cost optimization * Design manufacturing aids, fixtures, and tooling * Benchmark our competitions' products to compare product attributes * Support the NPI (New Product Introduction) process * Create and maintain engineering specifications with a focus on continuous improvement * Partner with Operations to formulate standardized work procedures for production staff * Ensure your projects are delivered in line with expectations for cost, quality, and timingLearn more about The Shyft Group and Royal Truck Body by exploring the hyperlinks below.
