We are seeking a corporate/transactional attorney to join the Farm Bureau legal team. In this role, you will provide sophisticated and high value legal services to the Iowa Farm Bureau and its affiliates, including the entities comprising Farm Bureau Financial Services.The Counsel/Senior Counsel will work directly with the investments team to provide legal support for investment transactions conducted by the organization's affiliated life and property-casualty insurers. The position will also work directly with Renew Rural Iowa, Iowa Farm Bureau's innovative program to enhance and improve economic growth across the state, including through its affiliated venture capital funds. The Counsel/Senior Counsel will also have responsibility for providing legal support in the areas of corporate governance, real estate transactions, and other general corporate matters.The Counsel/Senior Counsel will report directly to the General Counsel.Who We Are: The Iowa Farm Bureau Federation is a statewide, grassroots farm organization dedicated to creating a vibrant future for agriculture, farm families and their communities. We're proud of our more than 80-year commitment to protecting the livelihoods and futures of our client/members and creating an atmosphere where our employees thrive.What You'll Do: * Collaborate with senior members of the Farm Bureau Financial Services investments team to advise on the evaluation, acquisition, and disposition of various investments. * Serve as a strategic advisor in negotiating venture capital transactions, oftentimes on behalf of the lead investor, in various financing rounds as well as in exiting previous investments. * Work directly with the General Counsel on matters related to the corporate governance of the organization and other general corporate matters, including real estate transactions. * Prepare memoranda and drafts of complex contracts and other legal documents within the scope of the preceding matters. * Conduct legal research and analysis and assure communication on key issues to the organization, providing analytical support to senior leadership. * Provide legal advice and support during regulatory examinations.What It Takes to Join Our Team: * Juris Doctor (JD) degree and admission to the Iowa Bar required * Five to fifteen years of relevant experience as a corporate/transactional attorney (Senior level requires 10+ years of relevant experience) * Private practice experience at a commercial law firm is preferred * Experience with real estate transactions is beneficial· Ability to function independently, establish priorities, and confidently offer and defend legal advice· Strategic as well as analytical thinking, with effective decision-making skills and focused attention to detail * Strong interpersonal and communications skills; collaboration with internal clients and external advisors * Minimal travel is requiredWhat We Offer You: When you're on the Farm Bureau team, you get more than a great paycheck.
