Sophia Learning has its own internal Media Team, which acts as an in-house creative studio generating media strategy and execution across all Sophia courses.At Sophia, the Media Team works in support of the Academic Team, and is committed to delivering beautiful, engaging, consistent, intuitive and accessible content for all Sophia Learners. The PT Media Designer provides full-service design for course development projects in an energetic, collaborative environment. The position is responsible for the conception, creation, and execution of static and video media for Sophia courses. The Media Designer must be highly organized, and efficient with attention to detail, both in design and administrative tasks. The PT Media Designer will support the Academic Team by working closely with the Media Manager, other Media Designers, Instructional Designers, Course Producers, Project Managers, and other stakeholders to ensure an excellent Learner experience via effective visual communications, and ensure all content complies with the appropriate standards and guidelines.The ideal candidate will work part-time in either a fully remote or hybrid (Minneapolis or Washington D.C.) manner and be able to turn around content and edits within the timeline created by the project manager. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Concept development & design - This position is responsible for strategizing, developing, organizing, and delivering media for Sophia courses. As part of the Media Team, this position works closely with the rest of the Academic Team to ensure the media content is clear, intuitive, and done in the appropriate Sophia-style, all while meeting the learning objectives and providing an outstanding learning experience. Styles of projects - The Media Designer will be able to use their creativity, resourcefulness, and drive to: illustrate and concept storyboards for video, (using Illustrator, PowerPoint, etc.) create compositions for video use in After Effects, edit existing video within AfterEffects, Premiere Pro generate new audio files in various Text-to-Speech tools edit audio files in Adobe Audition have a strong sense of video on-screen timing, pace Relationship management - As a member of the Media Team, the Media Designer is responsible for working collaboratively with the Media Manager, other Media Designers, Instructional Designers, Course Producers, Subject Matter Experts (SME's), Project Managers, and other stakeholders, to strengthen existing relationships and to build additional relationships as opportunities arise. Art Direction - The Media Designer will have a firm grasp of the Sophia Media styles and be comfortable setting direction for new projects. Process improvement and compliance - The Media Designer works using established processes and standards to ensure timely delivery of best-in-class content. The Designer actively participates in the ongoing development of standards, processes, creative ideation, and innovation within the Media Team. The Designer also ensures all materials meet visual usability standards established by Sophia Accessibility guidelines, and outside accreditation services. Media Team enrichment and innovation - The Media Designer brings new knowledge and ideas to the Media Team through networking, monitoring trends and emergent best practices, and participating in professional development opportunities. Nimble and efcient -- The Media Designer remains calm, focused, and detail-oriented in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment, efciently juggling projects simultaneously. Job Skills: Fluent in the Adobe Creative Suite including Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Bridge, Strong in video editing and motion graphics, specifically Adobe After Effects, Premiere, Audition and related tools. Familiar with MS365 tools including Outlook, SharePoint, OneDrive, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Additional understanding of design tools like Lotti, Figma, Genially a plus. Familiar with AI tools in design like Adobe Sensi, Prisma, a plus. Familiar with Text-to-Speech tools like Google Text-to-Speech, a plus Basic knowledge of markup, HTML, and CSS. Clear, timely communication with team members regarding project details, status, questions and requests. Self-organized and able to manage multiple project deadlines and production schedules within our project management tools. Strong understanding of design principles, typography, color theory, and layout. Experience in ensuring the best use of proprietary photography, including both the brand aesthetic and purpose-specic t. Quick study - ability to absorb information and feedback quickly and apply to new projects. Work Experience: 5+ years experience creating targeted, market-specic materials including digital, video/broadcast, print, brand, presentations, and e-communications. Preferred industry experience in an educational or corporate setting, or agency. Education: Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience. Other: Must be able to travel occasionally should a business need arise. For most roles travel would not be common. Travel may involve plane, car or metro. In accordance with ADA policies, reasonable accommodations regarding travel limitations can be provided. Travel will be more common for roles such as Account Executives (25 - 50%), senior leaders (10 - 20%) or Capella Core Faculty (5 - 10%). Ability to work onsite in Corporate or Campus location (in a typical office environment) may be required based on role. If so, this would include being mobile within the office, including movement from floor-to-floor using elevators or stairs. If offsite or hybrid role, must have access to work in setting which enables meeting all requirements of the role (including privacy, reliable internet access, phone, ability to video conference, etc.) at a remote location. This role may require lifting, however reasonable accommodations will be provided in accordance with our ADA policies. Must be able to meet critical thinking and problem solving aspects aligned to job duties, as well as effectively communicating with co-workers. Must be able to work more than 40 hours per week when business needs warrant. Accommodations related to schedule may be considered. Able to access information using a computer.
