International Culinary Intern Job Description Full Time - Minimum of 32 Hours/ Week Pay starting at $12 (+ 3% Heart of House fee based on restaurant sales and hours worked) Lucy's opened in June of 2018 and was recently awarded the #1 restaurant in Auburn, AL by Trip Advisor. As a cook, you would be responsible for preparing,   seasoning, and cooking a variety of food items such as soups , meats, vegetables, desserts, etc. In a   continuing effort to deliver outstanding guest service and financial profitability, you will be responsible for performing the following tasks to the highest standards: Maintain a thorough knowledge of all menu items and ingredients Prepare food items under the direction of the executive chef, sous chef, or supervisor according to designated recipes and quality standards   Practice correct food handling and food storage procedures according to federal, state, local, and company regulations Inspect food preparation and serving areas to ensure cleanliness and observance of safe, sanitary food-handling practices Weigh, measure, and mix ingredients according to recipes or personal judgment while using various kitchen utensils and equipment Manage guest orders in a friendly, organized, and efficient manner Stock and maintain designated food station(s) Visually inspect all food sent from the kitchen to ensure quality and accuracy Professional Skills Knowledge of kitchen tools and utensils   - A proper knowledge of the kitchen tools and utensils is required to perform the specific tasks and requirements of being a cook. Usually, a short introduction to the available equipment is done when hired, but a basic knowledge of kitchen components is required. Good coordination   - Cooks work with sharp utensils, high-temperature pans, steaming pots, etc. The ideal candidate must coordinate his or her actions to avoid hazards and ensure the safety of both themselves and other members of the team. Good learning skills - The ability and willingness to learn is an essential components to growth in this position. Cooks must always have their eyes and ears open. They learn along the way from what they are directly told and shown but must also learn by observing other members of the staff. As a cook, you may be required to train and teach other members the proper procedures. Work well under pressure - Working in a professional kitchen requires an intense level of stress management, as most of the activity is done under pressure to meet strict deadlines. Tense situations may occur, and it is expected that cooks know exactly how to act in such moments. Personal skills Passion   - In the culinary industry, passion for what you are doing is essential.   Positive attitude   - A cook is part of a team. A positive attitude will increase the team's confidence and create a good working environment that promotes everyone's success. Good communication skills   - The kitchen staff is often working under pressure, and conveying messages in a clear, concise, and respectful manner is essential for good collaboration and the overall success of the team. Patience and perseverance   - Even though much of the work of a cook is done in a fast-paced environment, they must keep their calm and work diligently for good results.   Great endurance   - Most of a cook's work is done standing, requires a wide range of mobility, and involves the lifting and carrying of heavy items. Therefore, great physical endurance is necessary in this position.
